One of the most important and innovative Bridges in US history is the
Brooklyn bridge which spans the East River and unites the island of
Manhatten with the Brooklyn mainland.
This 1595 foot span was the first steel-wire suspension bridge ever
constructed.
John Augustus Roebling, a German immigrant, used daring new
suspension technology to create this iconic structure.
The bridge opened for use on May 24, 1883 in a large ceremony presided
over by President Chester Arthur and NY mayor Franklin Edson. The
first day saw 1800 vehicles and
over 150,000 people cross the bridge.
There are hundreds of different spoon variations picturing this
important bridge. These are just a few examples.
All spoons are sterling unless otherwise stated
