BRITISH SOUVENIR SPOONS
LONDON
The greater metropolitan area known as London is the most populous in
the United Kingdom and is the capital of England and the United
Kingdom. This leading global city has a diverse range of people and
cultures and was one of the leading metropolitan areas in the world
during the souvenir spoon era. Thus it is not surprising that a
number of travelers purchased spoon souvenirs.
This exhibit is just a sample of the myriads of spoons available from
this area.
Fun fact: The actual medieval size of London is only 1.12 sq miles and
there are only about 7500 people who actually live in London. Of
course, we all think of the greater London (21+ million people) which
is technically incorrect.
All of these spoons are sterling and marked with conventional British
silver markings. Although they are about London, they may have been
manufactured in other cities.

In Picadilly Circus (a round open circle space is called a circus), the
statue of Eros (aka Shaftesbury Monument)
has been a major attraction since its erection in 1893 from aluminum (a
precious metal at that point in history)

The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the House of Commons
and the House of Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the United
Kingdom.
Westminster Abbey (aka Collegiate Church of St. Peter at Westminster)
is a Gothic style church
and the traditional burial site and coronation site for British
monarchs.
