GUILLOCHE SPOONS

gilloche silver spoons
A beautiful set of 6 guilloche spoons (sometimes there is an accent over the final e)

A machine developed  ca. 1620 by Hans Schwanhardt was used to make very precise repetitive patterns in a material.
The method  seen here was named after a French engineer "Guillot" who
refined the machine to make the patterns and designs on a metallic surface.

After the metal  is  engraved a colored transparent enamel turns the silver into these very pretty spoons.
Most of the spoons of this type come  from Norway or Sweden

Sets of six spoons are frequently encountered
