ANDREW JOHNSON SPOON EXHIBIT

Andrew Johnson was our 17th President. He inherited the office upon the death of Abraham Lincoln.

His goal was to provide for a quick restoration of the southern states to the Union, but his plans ran afoul of Congress and they tried to impeach him.

Johnson was born in poverty and became a tailor by trade. He worked in several frontier towns and finally settled in Greeneville, Tennessee.
