SPOONS OF SWITZERLAND

A number of very beautiful enameled and picture souvenir spoons are available from Switzerland. Because of its location, the Swiss drew inspiration from the German, French and Italian spoon manufacturers and we find spoons similar to all of these cultures.

Most of these spoons are enameled on both the finial and in the bowl, but I have a problem. The digital camera is not capable of reproducing the spoon to my satisfaction and the scanner puts an ugly colored line thru the bowl picture. In other words, I can't show you the true beauty of these spoons, and since none of my viewers have volunteered the use of a better digital camera, this is the best that I can do.

A very beautiful view of Konigsee

The bowl of this spoon contains a beautiful hand painted portrait of a Swiss maiden in a typical swiss costume, unfortunately, I do not possess the means of reproducing it to my satisfaction which would show you it's true beauty.

This very interesting full figural flower handle has a gold plated bowl engraved "Lucerne"

William Tell Spoons

The William Tell legend is generic to many cultures. In this version, a peasant refuses to obey an edict from a ruling official (Austrian ruler, Gessler). Because of his refusal, his punishment is to be forced to shoot an apple from his son's head. Of course, as a folk hero, he was successful, but also admitted that he had a second arrow hidden to be used against Gessler in case he had injured his son.

A number of different spoons retell this story.

This 950 quality spoon also shows the Lucerne lion in a coin shaped finial
