On December 17, 1903, two bicycle mechanic brothers achieved the first
controlled powered flight of a heavier than air airplane.
Orville and Wilbur Wright of Dayton, Ohio took their invention to
a beach at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in a series of continuing
experiments
which ultimately culminated in the first sustained flight and ushered
in an era of human progress which has changed the face of human kind.
Their first patent was technically about the invention of a three-axis
control which allowed the pilot to adjust the aircraft in flight, thus
maintaining equilibrium.
A sterling Ohio state spoon featuring a beautiful hand painted
picture of their invention.
All of the other spoons featuring this invention which I have seen have
the plane engraved in the bowl.
